Help the Retriever Poets go to the CUPSI Poetry Slam Competition in Richmond, Virginia

Who Are We?

The Retriever Poets, is UMBC's only poetry club! We are dedicated to creating a safe and tolerant space for poets and creatives at UMBC to express themselves. The club was created in Fall 2017. We perform at UMBC, at local open mics, poetry slams, and once a year we go to the national College Unions Poetry Slam Invitational (CUPSI). In our first few months of being created, 8 of our poets auditioned and got chosen to compete at CUPSI!

At this national poetry slam competition, poets from schools all over the country get the chance to showcase their talents, learn from one another, network, and attend workshops to improve their art!

Why We Need Your suppoRt

The upcoming CUPSI is at the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, from April 15-18, 2020. Our team will  need additional financial resources to attend the 2020 CUPSI in Richmond, including:

  • round-trip bus fare to Richmond, VA;
  • hotel accommodations; and,
  • daily meals for 4 days;
  • The estimated total for these expenses is $1500.

Help us succeed!

We truly need your donations and support.  We encourage you to share information about Retriever Poets and this project, on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

In fact, share it with everyone you know as we think it's a great idea, and the more people who know about it, the more likely we are to meet our goal.

We will be certain to provide updates on the progress of our project and when we do make it to the CUPSI, we will give real time updates from the competitions, including our UMBC Retriever Poets performances!

Thank you, in advance, for your support and generosity!
